I think that you are correct that it is off of a C class engine. I have found several examples that show these tall extensions on the front of the water legs. What I would call the enclosure over the water valves. Some examples are 268, 300, 302, 315 and 318. The extensions on the coal bunker also look similar to those found on 300 and 320.
