Chama Turntable-A Mystery?

OK, I'm confused. And, I'm not alone.
In several places I have seen a reference to the Chama turntable being removed because it wasn't long enough.
Well, at 65 feet, why was the Turntable at Chama not long enough, while the 65 foot turntable at Durango was not and still is not a problem?
Is there anything to this, or was it a case of a bad photo caption that seems to keep being perpetuated, most recently in "Rio Grande Narrow Gauge, The Final Years".
Great little book, by the way.
