In case any of our readers are confused, there are a variety of scales that use the same No 1 gauge. It all depends on what you are trying to represent. The track gauge is 45mm (approximately 1-3/4").

An early use of this gauge was to represent meter gauge (approx. 3'3-3/8") -- you've got to remember that this gauge started in Europe.
1m/45mm works out to approximately 1:22.5

To represent standard gauge on this gauge the scale becomes 1:32 (3/8" = 1')

Now to model 3' gauge prototypes on 45mm track the scale (914mm/45mm) works out to approximately 1:20.3

If you are into "British Colonial" gauge which is 42" the scale (1066mm/45mm) works out to approximately 1:24
