The #455 started its service with the D&RG RR in 1903. In 1939 the Rio Grande Southern "purchased" the #455 from the Denver & Rio Grande Western. In November of 1943 The #455 suffered a complete brake failure while heading north down from Dallas Divide. She had a full load of frieght in tow, and it didn't take long for the train to derail while rounding a curve. The #455's cab was completely destroyed. It took four years for the RGS to rebuild the #455. But, with a new cab and tender from standard gauge D&RGW C-40 loco #933 the #455 returned to service on the RGS in 1947. The #455 was scrapped in 1953.
