Ted,

The rollover was when she turned over on Kanosha pass while leased to the C&S. Her cab, steam dome ring and sand dome rings were destroyed. The C&S built up the cab (not sure if it was from another locomotive or from scratch.) I believe the sand dome, the way it is designed the missing dome ring would not matter. The steam dome got one from a standard gauge C&S locomotive - more modern, rounded.

She went back to the D&RGW who sold it to the New Mexico Lumber Company people near Dolores (okay - might have the wrong company name there.) When they went belly up, the wanted to sell it back and the D&RGW would not have it and the RGS didn't want it either. So it sat until Robert rescued it.

When Robert got the 345 parts, he put the missing sand dome on her and replaced that steam dome ring as well (it's a two-piece affair if I recall it correctly.) The cab still the steel cab as it was built for the C&S. Probably would have cost way too much to have replaced it with the wood cab during her recient rebuilt. They have talented carpenters there at the CRRM that could have rebuilt it. But they would have to get patterns from Knotts from their C-19.

Too bad Robert was not able to save other parts that wear out over time, such as the rods.

Just my novice input here. Don't have the books in front of me with the answers as to exactly where she dumped and the date. I think 285 passes the site fairly closely. I never stopped to look though.
