Re: 497's whistle - nasty sounding thing

497 got a different whistle when it came out of the shop last fall. It's a brass flat top 6-chime that I believe came off a Reading T-1 4-8-4 (like the 2101, etc). It sounds really nasty. It "cracks over" and squeals on at least 2 of the chimes. The throat disk is worn out giving some chimes too much steam, making them overblow or "crack over". We've got some other whistles that can go on 497, if I ever get a chance to do something about it. That nasy thing gives me a headache.
