Colorado & Southern Loco 15 Disposition? / Catskill & Tannersville Loco 1st 2?

It is widely believed that Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2 was also a Brooks 2-6-0. I have seen nothing that substantiates this belief. However, as it turns out, there is some weak evidence substantiating this assumption.

Accepting the assumption that Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2 was indeed a Brooks 2-6-0, I further assumed that it came from the Colorado & Southern, as did Catskill & Tannersville 1st 1. I discussed the acquisition of the first two Catskill & Tannersville locomotives in my post about C&S 20/Catskill & Tannersville 1st 1, so I won’t repeat it all here. Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2 was acquired between July 1899 and June 1900, probably about August 1899. Between July 1, 1901 and June 30, 1902, it was disposed of.

There were only three C&S Brooks 2-6-0’s sold to unknown buyers between July 1899 and June 1900. The most likely cource of Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2 is Brooks 403 (Colorado Central 8, C&S 15), sold in August 1899 for $1,000.00. The timing of this sale is perfect and the price exactly matches the price for the 1st 1. This suggests that there is some likelihood that Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2 is ex-C&S, and that it is Brooks 403 (Colorado Central 8, C&S 15). There are two other C&S possibilities for Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2, albeit less likely. They were both sold in November 1899 for $900.00 each to an unknown buyer. They were Brooks 727 (DSP&P 31, C&S 2); and Brooks 742 (DSP&P 33, C&S 3). Right now, I can’t really eliminate either of the latter two.

Needless to say, I would be happy to see any primary evidence about or photos of Catskill & Tannersville 1st 2 (which is not to be confused with the Baldwin-built outside frame 2nd 2 that was eventually sold to the CMStP&P).
