Re: So how is the C&TS doing so far

Sounds like you had a good trip. I hope the standard gauge operation does well. I would like to ride it someday, at least the La Veta portion.
It would make an interesting day, overnighting in Alamosa, and do the C&TS starting at Alamosa on the Standard Gauge, but then that would make for a really long day, by the time one gets back from Chama on a bus!!! I also hear the food is good at Osier.
I always enjoyed the ride from Antonito as much as from Chama. From Antonito, the scenery gets increasingly better, and for the most part the engine has to work some all the way west, so the engine sounds pretty good nearly all day. On the flip side the climb from Chama is GREAT, but downhill to Antonito. Guess thats why someone needs to experience it in both directions for the entire package. Either way its one of the best in North America.
