Easy way to know what superelevation to put in your 3' gauge track if you know what speed you want. Use a cord the following length and measure the mid-point off-set from the rail. That distance is the amount you should tamp up the outer rail:
10 MPH 12.5 FEET
15 MPH 18.75 FEET
20 MPH 25 FEET
25 MPH 31.25 FEET
30 MPH 37.5 FEET
FOR STANDARD GAUGE THE CORD LENGTH WOULD BE:
10 MPH 16'
15 MPH 24'
20 MPH 32'
25 MPH 40'
35 MPH 48'
YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO KNOW THE DEGREE OF CURVE WITH THIS METHOD.
THANK LIMA LOCOMOTIVE FOR THIS 1910 ERA DATA.
