Thanksgiving on the Arizona Divide

November 21, 2000 11:21PM
Another ATSF tale from Bob Eidson ...One trip he was with an engineer who was a family friend .Both bemoaned how neither had time to pick up a turkey for Thanksgiving Dinner .While working the train to Winslow a wild turkey jumped in to the Walschearts valve gear with a big explosion of feathers .Startled , the engineer "bigholed" the train .He got off ,went back and retreived the turkey .He set his fireman to draining and plucking the bird ,which was ready for Bob's surprised wife to cook .A great Thanksgiving was enjoyed by all , memorable by the great-tasting game bird and the novel story of how it was procured .
