The capacities are the same, but a K-36 tender tank is 25' long vs. 22' for a K-28. A K-36 tank is 8 1/2' wide vs 9 1/2' wide on a K-28. Both tenders hold 5000 gallons of water. Both originally carried 8 tons of coal however the K-36 coal bunker was later extended out over the top of the water space to add 1.5 tons of extra coal. Both tenders are very close to the same height.
