Hi Ted,
You are correct. All of the track materials were obtained by dismantling two 3ft. gauge "backyard" railways located in western Oregon. The owners were both selling their property and the new owners didn't want a railway on their land. One of these "backyard" railways belonged to a gentlemen named Malarkey Wall who once owned West Side Shay #8. He had planned to operate his Shay on his railway near Gales Creek, Oregon but never got it moved up to the site. However, for many years Malarkey operated his little 0-4-0 around the loop for the enjoyment of his kids, grandkids and friends. Below is a picture of us pulling up Malarkey Wall's railway and moving the materials to the new site in Brooks.
We did appreciate your contributions to the Newsletter Ted. We discontinued the Newsletter a while back and I'm afraid that is because of me. Nearly all of my spare time has now been focused on the Como Project and the guys currently running the WRPS are not very "Social Media Savvy". They prefer the hand-on work in the shop. However, I'm still on their Board so I try and get some news out when I can.
