I too travelled the highway from Lewiston to Grangeville a number of times and never saw a train. It wasn't until my daughter enrolled in chemical engineering at Washington State in Pullman (against my advice) and I had to start making trips to far eastern Washington to help out that I really got involved with the nearby Camas Prairie. Just in time to catch the the last operations on the Grangeville line, hiking all over the canyons and ridges (no drone shots here). A number of people thought that the line would make a great tourist train operation, but either the railroad was worried about trestles like this one across Lawyers Canyon
or about situations like this
But the railroad did run a dinner train on the easier grades of the Clearwater River between Lewiston and Lenore
(to be continued)
