assume the bridge is so high because the bridge is crossing over 32nd Street.
Having the trail cross over 32nd Street makes a lot of sense to me -- the trail is heavily used, since it is the city and literally in the backyards of many city residents. It is a wonderful asset for the City of Durango. There are no other street crossings on the trail which is great since people tend to zone out during long runs and bike rides on trails. Grade separating this trail from the road will save lives over the 50+ year life of the bridge.
Since the bridge is already crossing above the street, it doesn't make sense to have the path drop down and cross the track at grade.
This should really be a non-story, except it's
the Durango Herald and we know what they think of the railroad from their past coverage.
