While I am still toying with the idea of eventually doing a photo story of the December 5-6, 1967 freight operations, I suppose I should at least bring 497 into the December 5 scene. I didn't head east from Chama until the 493 arrived from Alamosa. And that late in the year dusk comes early, so by the time I caught up with 497 at Monero, the light was almost gone but I nevertheless took a series of photos hoping something would come out. So here is 497 crossing the second wooden trestle above Monero. Not a great shot, but historic, as 497 would never come blasting up the 2 percent grade in Monero Canyon again.
