While there appears never to have been through service, it was once possible to travel on 3' gauge lines from Ohio down into east Texas. This was for only a few years time in the early 1880s.
George W. Hilton in his book, American Narrow Gauge Railroads, devotes a significant number of pages to the "Grand Narrow Gauge Trunk."
The T&StL once operated Pullman sleeping cars tat later served in Colorado. Its problem was that it paralled the standard gauge Iron Mountain. It soon entered bankruptcy and the trustees converted the gauge to standard before it came out of bankruptcy.
