Coming back down towards the main grade, I spotted what looked like a man-made cistern for water:
It looks about 12 x 12 feet and is about 30 feet above the main grade. Possibly the MSP tapped into a spring and used this pool to refill a tank at track level. I did not see any signs of a structure on the mainline...
Coming back to the mainline, I spotted this drill hole in a rock:
Although much blasting had to be done to build the line, this is the first remnants of a hole I've seen...
I cycled the main grade about another mile until I rounded a corner and came to this:
There were so many fallen trees it looked impossible to get my bike across. I carefully worked myself across the mess and looked further down the grade only to see more fallen trees:
The main branch curves from heading a northerly direction to a westerly direction at this point. It looks to be about 2-3 miles to the end of track. I would have hiked it, but it was already after noon. I'll have to wait to see the rest of this branch...
At the location of the tree falls was evidence of a spur heading to the northeast:
