Continuing our exploration of Summit Camp. Here's a map of the track plan based on what I found on the ground:
For some reason, I couldn't get this to orient properly, but North is on the left side of the drawing.
The Ferguson Fire burned right through Summit Camp. Here's what it looks like:
You can see tie depressions everywhere. Hank Johnston's book indicates that Summit Camp was used in 1931, but it also says it was the exchange point between the woods trains and the mill train. I didn't see any strong evidence of logging equipment at Summit Camp so I'm guessing it was an exchange point for much longer than it was a logging camp.
There are artifacts everywhere. Here's three spikes that were in a tie that the fire burned out:
Here's a couple of rail joiners:
And here's some sort of shim? It's about 2 x 5 inches. Anybody know what it is???
