I remember a lot of "family affairs" when I worked for the railroad. Railroading was a good job back in the old days, and once one family member was in he could help his relatives find good jobs. And promotion was usually from within, so as older family members moved up the ladder it was easy for them to find spots for the kids. Lots of brothers and fathers and sons, probably grandsons as well. Not many women back in those days. At one point I was in a family "sandwich", the assistant super was my boss and two of his sons worked for me as conductors....I had to watch my step.
