JUst saw this on the news that Prairie City has mandatory evacuations for the S. part of town due to the Canyon fire that has already burned many homes at Canyon City S. of John Day. Prairie City was the terminus of the SVRy from 1910-1933. The 2 story depot is preserved as a museum with many artifacts from SVRy, including a stock car on display outside. The depot is in what I would consider the S. part of town. [www.opb.org]
