My friend Earl Failla who recently sold his West Side Lumber Caboose #4 for restoration to the NCNG Museum sent along to me some of his photos that he has collected over the years on his #4.
I am attaching one that we both find to be very cool. You can see the date and names of the ladies posing on the front proch of Caboose #4 early in her career. June 20, 1948.
In some of the past posts on Caboose #4 it was assumed by some writers that Hal Wilmunder must have owned the caboose at some time since it had been stored on his Camino Cable & Northern RR in the 1960's. That is not the case.
West Side Caboose #4 was purchased from the West Side in the early 1960's by Steve Polinghorn and he owned it up until 1976 when Earl bought it. When Earl bought it she was stored in Chama on the C&TS. Earl moved it to his various homes in California, and then to Oregon where it still is.
