Stone would chip and you would lose the lettering. Half inch T-1 steel plate is pretty bullet proof (and expensive) but the splattered bullets would still degrade the lettering and might tempt the vandals to use heavier cartridges in an attempt to perforate the plate. And even catching the bums is probably a waste of time since the court would give them 30 days of weekends at home if convicted.
