Hi Betty -
One of the reasons I was smiling - in addition to the joy of meeting up with several friends on
Thursday - was being able to catch a pair of K-28's at Elbert Creek (aka "The Little High Line")
:
Not only was there a green car in the consist, traces of green were still showing under the soot on #473's jacket!

I got to Alamosa on Friday afternoon well before the regular train returned from La Veta. I didn't have any green paint with me, so I couldn't do a make-over on this beautiful ex-I.C. observation, but I did manage to change her name to "Curmudgeon's Club". That's one of the SL&RG's big SD-90's in the background
:
A few minutes later #18 steamed into town; IIRC that silver-painted sand tower to her left is the same one used in steam days, and which shows up in photos of K-36's being serviced that JBWX and I were lucky enough to capture in the 1960's
:
While the engineer
* watched for a signal from the conductor, the squinty-eyed fireman kept a cautious lookout for vandals; apparently he had been warned that a migrating yetti had been spotted earlier in the week headed this way
:
The suspicious fireman then carefully inspected his steed for signs of green paint
