We have been spiking down some 30 lb rail lately for our narrow gauge project. It goes pretty well once you get going on it but some kind of method of regulating the ballast is required.
I was wondering if anyone has found a good way to do it or maybe has a machine for the purpose. As we all know RR's use those vibrating forks that dig down and shove the ballast under the ties as the machine lifts up the rails. They are way too heavy duty for narrow gauge purposes and would be difficult to adapt to a two foot gauge RR.
Attached images show the work in progress.
If anyone wants to get involved let me know.
Thanks,
Ben
