Dear EBT Fan -
Actually, it's
two consecutive weekends - about 12 days total -
IF the dates really are correct.
I am assuming the revised C&TS date
IS correct, as that's what's posted on The Goat, and Jay
works very closely with Alan in scheduling & marketing many of the C&TS special events.
The date was moved from Labor Day Weekend primarily to avoid a conflict with next year's Narrow Gauge Convention in St. Louis, and also because area ranchers and hands usually gather in Chama and Antonito on Labor Day - making housing somewhat scarce. Because Sept. 12-14 is already into the beginnings of Fall Colors, and the last weekend of August is usually a fairly quiet time in Chama, it made more sense to move the date forward into August rather than backward into September. So August 28-30 it is. (But don't be surprised if there's some kind of warm-up or welcoming event on Friday evening, August 27.)

I am less certain about the dates for Railfest in Durango, but Jeff Ellingson of the D&S agreed that by having the two events on consecutive weekends even more people than usual would have an incentive to visit Narrow Gauge Country, and there
was (as of yesterday, at least) a tiny notice at the bottom of the D&S 2009 webpage announcing that Railfest 2010 would be held on August 19-22.
So, come next August, perhaps you should heed the immortal words of one Horace Greely and "Go West, Young Man."
