NNG - Oil firing redux: 'Clear Stack' Rides Again!!

Here's my photo of Phil Reader's mentor Neil Vodden running #2472, with John Teshara firing.  The 2472 is doing most of the work as they double-head up the 1%-or-so approach to the big bridge across Suisun Bay at Benicia – and LOOK at #2472's exhaust!!  Well, TRY to look at it – his fellow S.P. enginemen didn't give John the nickname 'Clear Stack' for no reason.  Not a drop of wasted fuel in THAT exhaust . . .

This was #2472's VERY FIRST revenue train after her rebuild — Sacramento to Oakland on the Friday after Railfair:  May 17, 1991:

p.s. Doyle never did, and never will, like running #4449 in second place behind #2472 (or any other engine) — but it's a classic streamliner-and-helper pairing that could have occurred any time from 1937 through 1956 on the S.P.
