Hello, again -
IIRC, Kodachrome (on which I presume your Dad's shot was taken) is a little bit less sensitive to green than it is to the warmer colors, so the green on both the coaches and the locomotive
may appear just a little darker than in "real life". Had the picture been taken on Ektachrome, the greens would probably appear a little too green. It's also possible the shot was very slightly underexposed, or that your scan is a tiny bit dark.
An un-retouched color photo may prove that that something did indeed have some color, but cannot be relied upon to determine the exact shade. Only samples of the original paint provide real proof, and even then can be affected by fading, wearing away of the original glossy surface, etc., etc.
I expect the actual color was SLIGHTLY lighter than in the shot you posted above, but nowhere near as light as "#472" as she appeared on the D&S in 2005 (see [
ngdiscussion.net]).

p.s. Here are some examples of MINOR PhotoShop tweaks to your Dad's shot.
IMHO, #3 is about what she should look like to the naked eye in mid-day light
(assuming your monitor and mine are both adjusted to the correct color balance):
1) - Adding just a TINY bit of green (PhotoShop didn't display the percent, but I had set the amount-of-change slider pretty low.):
2) - Shadows lightened 15%, but NO added green:
3) - Adding same amount of green as in #1, plus shadows lightened 15%. IMHO, this is
very close to the correct color:
