Hi, Roger -
Here are three more that I dug up out of my archives. For obvious reasons these have not been posted before, but they do shed some light on the first year of passenger operations on the C&TS. IIRC, my "brothers" John and Tom-ass Hall (#5 and #7 of the Hall clan; I was adopted under the name of '#8') joined me on a trip to Narrow Gauge Country around Labor Day of 1971. After chasing a train up to Cumbres (see [
ngdiscussion.net]), we headed out to Osier and camped out in the open there one VERY cold night (there were 4-foot icicles hanging off the water tower the next morning). This was a long time before the new depot/dining hall was constructed, so we had campfire chicken and baked beans for dinner. Twice.
Departure from Chama, circa 9/3/71. Note #483 had been repainted, but the tender not yet re-lettered:
The following day, #483 returns with the westbound express; just box lunches on the train in those days - no yummy stew or apple pie!
East of Osier, circa 9/5/71. No more "brown" paint, but whose engine is this, anyhow?
