Shays are steamers. Instead of 2 cylinders, there are 3 mounted vertically on the side.
Georgetown Loop has 3 shays (8, 12, 14) and 2 side rod (40 and 44) engines. #12 (1926 Lima - WSL) and #14 (1916 Lima WSL) are currently operable and are the 2 engines used for passenger service.
#8 Shay is in need of extensive TLC. With this, it is sidelined for awhile in Silver Plume. There are intentions to restore and operate #8 in the future. One engine restoration at a time is plenty to handle.
#40 (1920 Baldwin) is in Skagway, Alaska ... for the time being. GLR and WP&Y made many repairs that should keep this engine in operation for many years.
#44 is in parts and pieces, being restored. The boiler is at Colorado Boiler in Denver, getting new firebox sheets and new tubes. The drivers are in Durango, being turned and quartered. Everything else is being restored, part by part, in Silver Plume. GLR shops hope to have #44 complete sometime late next year.
C&S #9 is not part of the Georgetown Loop Railroad. It is owned and controlled by the Colorado Historical Society. The CHS currently has no extensive plans for #9. There is a new building in Silver Plume that was built for the intention of housing #9. CHS is also the "rich uncle" that helped the GLR build the shops and many of the facilities for the railroad.
