Grant,
The Narrow gauge Motel was already deplorible and sad in 1968 when Erick Nelson and I stayed there on our first trip after graduating High School.
It was cheap, and the proprietor, who was presumably the Carl of Art's post above, was pretty unfriendly and seemed to bear quite a grudge that almost all of the artifacts had been moved to Golden. He did not want to talk about it, and didn't seem like he cared at all that we had chosen to stay there.
All that I recall being left there at the time was a maybe a boxcar, and a short (F&CC?) caboose. There might have been some other stuff, but I don't recall at this time, and it couldn't have been much if there was. We couldn't get out of there fast enough the next morning, and we never stopped there again.
Another thing I recall from the Motel was that there was a line of Narrow Gauge stock cars strung out alongside the the mainline across the Highway that seemed to go on for miles. I'll never forget how many cars there were in Alamosa that year. The only equipment in Chama was Rotary OM.
