About 4 weeks ago I was at Skagway when the WP&Y set a new daily passenger record of 4693 passengers, excluding complimentary ticket holders. About a week later they broke that record but I didn't record the number. Of course, they were using mostly diesels, but some of them are approaching 50 years old. 2-8-0 #40 was taking trains from the docks to the shop, and to Bennett on Saturdays. Distances are from about 40 miles round trip to about 80 miles round trip.
I wonder how they compare to some Amtrak routes in numbers carried per year.
It would increase income for Colorado's NG railroads if cruise ships would go there, too, but nobody listens to my suggestions anymore!
