NORTHFIELD, Minn.
A volunteer serving as a brakeman during a small-gauge railroad demonstration was killed after a caboose tipped over and fell on him, Rice County authorities said.
William Paget, 68, of Savage, jumped off the rear of the caboose and tried to keep it from tipping when the caboose fell on him Saturday afternoon near Northfield, authorities said. Three adults and five children were in the caboose when it tipped.
The caboose was the only rail car attached to the engine as it rounded a curve at less than walking speed, authorities said.
