493 498 and 499

When I was visiting Durango with my older brother in 1990 or 1991 the 493, 498 and 499 were still in their Rio Grande livery in the roundhouse at Durango. They looked as thought they were in fairly good condition. I wonder why these 3 locomotives have been relegated to such conditions outside abused by the elements.

I am sure however that if needed Durango's shops would have them in tip top shape and ready for action in no time at all. It is a shame to see them in this condition though absolutely.
