60 years ago today, the "Shavano", trains 315-316 made its last run behind 479 between Salida and Gunnison.
While 315-316 had a long history as the Marshal Pass passenger run between Salida and Montrose, it was discontinued between Gunnison and Montrose in 1934. The remainder of 315-16's route was not named "Shavano" until (January?) 1937 when the cars were rebuilt with vestibules, steam heat and electric lights.
Likewise trains 215-216 were not named the "San Juan" until 1937.
Let's have a moment of silence for the "Shavano"..
Thank you.
