Speaking of small flying Rio Grande lettering there is a photo of C-18 #317 next to the Gunninson sand house. This photo is in Gil Lathrop's book titled Rio Grande Glory Days. I have seen this photo in another book; I belive is one of the Grandt books. This engine has a small flying Rio Grande on its tender. Any one know why this small lettering was used on the tender. Is it another goof from the car shop which showed up from time to time on equipment.
