FEBT Work Session July 21-22, 2007

July 19, 2007 05:28PM avatar
The seventh FEBT Rockhill work session of 2007 will take place Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22, 2007.

We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 5 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.

The RTY beanery will not be open this weekend. Bring your own lunch or plan to visit one of the sandwich shops in town.

EVENT SIGNAGE
We have a one-person, one-weekend job working on some event signage for upcoming special weekends. This is mostly painting with a little carpentry. Lee Rainey will lead this job.

HOPPER 802
The second truck will be pressure-washed. Welding repairs to the truck will proceed, as well as welding the edging onto the second set of hopper doors and the plow hinges. Steve Jacobs will lead this crew.

BOXCAR 168
The first job will be to block the car securely to keep it level during repairs to the side sill and bolster. The carpenter crew will install the last length of fascia and then putty, prime and paint the new eaves so that the rubber roofing can be glued in place. The next steps are to plane the floor sills, and to cut the required steel side patches and weld the repairs in place. Lee Rainey will lead this project.

FOUNDRY
Having installed the new replacement beam last session, this crew will continue the reassembly of the foundry gantry area, working towards removal of the temporary bracing. Jim Bacon will lead this project.

MAIN SHOPS
Work will continue along the south wall on window repairs, glass preparation, and wall repairs, priming and painting. There is also work to be done on partially restored sashes that have been previously removed. Chris Coleman will lead this job.

GARAGE
The garage project will not be active this weekend.

BRUSH
If we have enough volunteers, the brush crew will work along the Rockhill wye on Saturday. The plan is to chip the rest of the brush cut at the last session and to cut as much more as time allows. A gasoline chain saw would be a great help to this crew, if someone could bring one. Rick Culp will lead this effort.

COMBINE 14
To the extent that time allows, a planing crew will begin planing the sill replacement lumber for the combine. Lee Rainey will lead this crew.

WEATHER
The weather at this point is predicted to be in the high 70s and clear during the weekend. Visit www.accuweather.com and check Rockhill zip code 17249 for the latest weather.

GROUND RULES
To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.

Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.

See you there!
Lee
