use of teflon on boilers/engines

May 27, 2007 09:57PM
Got a question for the steam locomotive guys.....at Tweetsie RR, we have been experimenting with some teflon valve seats in our gauge cocks on the 190. We are having great success with it, vs. the old fiber/ceramic changeable seats. Im sure were not the first in the industry to use teflon. But i was just curious if any of you operators have attempted to use teflon in any other aspects on the boilers or even in the running gears. I was contemplating trying some teflon seats in some of our boiler checks. Any feedback would be appreciated on this subject.
