I've just viewed a short clip from the 1952 film 'The Denver and Rio Grande' which shows the climatic train wreck between #268 The Bumblebee and what appears to be --- another Bumblebee (number indistinct)!
Looking carefully at the clip, and using stop motion, through a brief hole in the smoke and steam I noticed that both locomotives were still on the track and looked remarkably undamaged from what I could see. #268 backed up a little bit.....but, of course, in true Hollywood* style, nothing seen should be believed and we know #268 survived intact, so I wonder how they did the scene - with smoke and mirrors, I reckon.
