Probably hasn't been a train like this over La Veta in a while - if ever.
We got a call from Coors the other day. We have a bunch of thier beer-hauling glass lined (in other words HEAVY) tank cars stored on the SLRG. They wanted us to ship them 24 - NOW (probably to replace the ones the BNSF piled up in Denver a week or so back). Our freight trains have been running right at tonnage for 4 units lately, so we didn't have room on the nightly frieght to Walsenburg. So, we put them on the passenger train, along with 5 cars of lava rock that needed to go away too. 29 cars to the rear was the regular passenger train consist.
8577 and company pour it on through Blanca...
Lotta train there...
Through the S-curves west of Russell...
9900 horsepower dig in for the 2.5% climb out of Sierra...
Looks like these folks are having a good time. I wonder if anyone knew how unique their train was....
In case anyone is wondering. I don't plan on making this a habit. Cutting freight cars into the consist really slows the schedule down. Today's train was over an hour late by the time it got to La Veta.
