D&RGW Alamosa Train Sheet
February 7, 1937
Train 115 and 116 ran as Antonito stub with engine 470. Depart Alamosa 8:00 AM, lay over Antonito until 6:05 PM, return Alamosa 7:15 PM.
115 and 116 annulled between Antonito and Chama account snow Cumbres.
Extra 471 west depart Alamosa 10:45 AM, arrive Antonito 12:05 PM, depart Antonito 12:45 PM, arrive Alamosa 1:40 PM. Break in new passenger equipment. Consist: 65 167 312 272 and Parlor Car Alamosa.
Following weather conditions reported to dispatcher:
Cumbres 6:30 AM, snowing hard brisk SW wind drifting snow bad.
Big Horn, Osier, Sublette 6:45 AM, snowing and blowing hard, 10" to 12" snow.
Cumbres:
9:30 AM, snowing hard, brisk to strong SW wind drifting pretty bad, snow wet and heavy, not as bad as yesterday but still pretty bad. 4 to 5 feet drifted in front of depot.
1:30 PM, blowing hard, can't see 100 feet, if snowing or not.
2:15 PM, blowing hard worst it has been, man cannot face the storm.
4:00 PM, snowing, strong SW wind drifting bad, can't see how bad it's snowing, can't see a thing, can walk on top, about 5 feet deep in front.
Sublette:
5:05 PM, snow blowing hard, drifting bad 11" to 12" new snow.
Big Horn:
5:15 PM, snowing blowing hard, drifting, 6" to 8" new snow.
At 9:00 PM, Cumbres, Sublette and Big Horn report still snowing and blowing but not as bad as has been.
Crested Butte Branch activity:
Train 347 with 474 turned back to Gunnison from Slate Cut, MP 306, snow slide, snow and drifts 10 to 15 feet deep and 200 feet long. Left train at Almont.
