42" Steam in New Zealand

October 26, 2006 02:39AM
42" steam is alive and well running in New Zealand. A private organizatiion, Main Line Steam, is providing the experience of a life time at this moment. The stars have been the 4-8-2 locomotives of the "J" class (1211, 1236, 1275). The restoration is pefection and these locos steam along at 40-55 mph (up to 80kph). The trip has covered both Islands including carrying the locos and cars on ferry's between the islands. The support equipment is amazing.
I'll try to send pictures when I return in late November. Answering questions will have to wait till then.
