And now 21st-century Coloradans are rebuilding rail passenger service. Besides RTD's southeast metro light- rail line opening this fall, this spring brought the resurrection of the scenic La Veta Pass route into the San Luis Valley.

The faster (up to 45 mph) and safer (no derailments or accidents so far) SL&RG offers roomy seats and a friendly crew, who forewarn you about the tunnels and the elk.
