Last weekend, the Harz narrow gauge network in Germany was extended by another 5 miles, by converting the former standard gauge branch from Quedlinberg to Gernrode to narrow (meter) gauge! This brings the total mileage of this fantastic network to over 87 miles. Many services are still worked by steam.
I visited the system for the first time at the end of April (before the new line was competed, although the track had been laid).
Follow the link to their web site. It is mostly in German, but some is also in English).
I am posting a few photos that I took when I visited to give you a flavor of the system.
