This coming July 4th marks the 30th Anniversary of the Restored Sumpter Valley RR operations. The first passengers were carried by the Sumpter Valley Restoration group on July 4, 1976 out of McEwen, OR behind Heisler #3.
Since then miles of track have been added all the way to Sumpter and a new depot built in Sumpter itself. #19 and #20 were brought back from Alaska and reunited with their tenders that were brought back from Gutemala after thier service behind the famous SVRy Mallets. #19 returned to service in 1996 and many additional buildings and pieces of rolling stock have been
added to the operation.
For those of you that have been to the "Stump Dodger" you should return to see the amazing progress this group has accomplished in the last 30 years.
For those of you who have not yet visited this wonderful narrow guage railroad, come see what you have been missing.
A ceremony celebrating the 30th anniversary is planned at the Sumpter Depot on July 4th.
Again, congradulations to my friends at the SVRy for all you have done to preserve one our most cherished 3' gauge railroads and for all the plans you have for the future.
Martin
