From Railroad News Network (see link below):
Advisory board OK's pavilion for D&RGW 315
The Durango (CO) Parks and Forestry Advisory Board gave its nod of approval for the city to place a giant steel pavilion in Santa Rita Park to protect Durango & Rio Grande Western engine No. 315.
The proposed pavilion, estimated to cost $54,000, would be 20 feet wide, 60 feet long and more than 13 feet high. It would have six posts, open walls and a fence around the outer edges from which the public could view the historical locomotive.
Sharon Matheson, a board member, said the engine is worth protecting, and the pavilion will be an improvement over the chain link currently around the locomotive.
The Durango Railroad Historical Society has budgeted about $350,000 to restore No. 315.
"I think a lot of people appreciate having the train in the park," Matheson said.
The City Council must ultimately decide whether to purchase the structure. The money for the pavilion would likely come from the city's general fund.
