Here's a message from "back East".
The WW&F Railway Museum had our annual Spring Track Meet this past weekend. Unlike last year, the weather cooperated perfectly - sunny in the mid 60s all weekend. Beautiful weather.
We made excellent progress over the three days (Friday to Sunday). First we finished up a task from last years washed-out fall session, in which we raised a sag north of our trestle. Then the crew continued on and raised a low spot over a culvert in the Alna Center yard. That was Friday.
Saturday jacking and tamping started in on out of service track north of the AC yard. Saturday we got about 600 feet of track tamped and ballasted. That took us over the crown of the hill and started us down "the ladder."
Sunday the crew did about another 300 feet before quitting. 1000 feet of new track was opened up for use, although this is beyond the station at Alna Center and is not part of the normal timetable.
Not to be outdone, the car knockers back at Sheepscot were busy working on lettering and fixing windows in our new coach, Coach 8. In the past week the coach was painted "Evergreen" on the outside and red floor inside. The gold number and lettering was applied Saturday. Looks really nice.
New rail arrives this week, which will be used for track extension in the fall.
