Seeks 5 percent of state gambling revenues
DENVER — With lawmakers passing only a stop gap measure to keep the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad operating this summer, Sen. Lewis Entz on Wednesday said he wants to find a permanent way to fund the historic tourist attraction.
Entz, R-Hooper, said he wants the railroad to get 5 percent of the state’s share of gambling revenues, which would bring in about $1 million a year. He said he’ll try to do that by amending a measure (House Bill 1201) that would require that more of the gambling money go to tourism.
“It’s a living museum that can’t stop, period, or you’ll lose it,” he said.
