More Guatemala *PIC*

Here are few more pix. Guatemala roundhouse. The engines were pretty worn out, and road failures were frequent, but the extensive Guatemala shop and its skilled labor force could make about anything needed for a steamer, whereas the diesels required imported parts for which there was no cash. IRCA had been almost dieselized, but the shortage of cash caused first IRCA and then Fegua to "steamize". My notes indicate that in the early 70's Fegua had about 50 active steam engines.
