This is my annual reminder that on this day in 1953 (not 1955), 485 fell into the turntable pit at Salida. So many books and magazines have stated that the event occurred in 1955, that it has become an urban legend of sorts. I hope after a few years of these annual posts, those who profess an interest in Colorado narrow gauge railroads will know better.
