I can't believe people are buying into this insane operating proposal(running only the Chama end) that Kim and the RGRPC(or whatever they call themselves) are proposing. Such a plan is ludicrous and a recipe for disaster and the ultimate demise of the railroad to nothing more than a ride up to Cumbres and back. You don't go before a political body like the commission with such a negative proposal and live to tell about it. For Cats to survive it needs around 70,000 riders a year. This level has been reached in the past and is completely doable now. What Cats needs is a proactive operating body that can promote the railroad and get it back up to speed, not more negativism. The railroad has three operating locomotives, plenty of passenger cars and decent track. What it needs is promotion. Without the ridership, the states will not see any reason to support it. This BS about Colorado vs New Mexico is just more smoke and mirrors. The railroad needs to be self sustaining anyway. Kim and the RGRPC are a failure if this is all they can come up with and should be replaced as soon as possible before next season. To leave out the Toltec Gorge is ridiculous. They should be promoting the through trains not round trips as with those you miss half the scenery. There is only about an hour penalty for taking the whole trip anyway. Sorry to keep beating this horse, but more and more people on here seem to think this is ok. I for one don't. They need to get someone with some kahunas to run that railroad and get rid of these wimps.
